The Inn at Honey Run

This barn quilt is as unique as its setting

Block Name:

Honey Run

Owners:

The Inn at Honey Run

Location:

6920 Co Rd 203
Millersburg, Ohio

The property is open to the public daily until sunset

The square is not visible from the public road or right of way, but is visible from the hiking trials

Unlike all others we’ve seen (thousands of them) this barn quilt isn’t painted on plywood or signboard. It was created with wooden planks and negative spaces, and filled with natural materials that create visual textures and supply nest-building materials for wild birds.

This square was created by Jordan Calame, the horticulturist at the Inn at Honey Run, who installed it in the summer of 2019.  The design is updated three times per year to display Spring-Summer, Autumn, and Autumn themes.  The image at the top of this page is the Winter 2020-2021 design.

The square is built of cedar planks and measures 6×6 feet.  Some of the natural objects filling the square’s boxes are pine cones, meadow grasses, pumpkin gourds, and sheep’s wool, all of which are replenished throughout the year

The inn is a private resort, but the grounds are open to the public when the lodge is open. The property spans 56 acres and offers hiking trails and excellent bird watching opportunities, particularly for bluebirds and owls. The lodge is one of the best (and few) places in Amish Country to have a drink and enjoy the evening in a great indoor-outdoor setting. We highly recommend a visit to this place at any time you visit the area.

This barn quilt is one of many to discover in Amish Country in and around Holmes County Ohio
